The GES Group began its activity 22 years ago, setting up its first spa in the Meliá chain, specifically in the Hotel sol y nieve in Sierra Nevada. Throughout these years they have been opening more spas in other establishments, all hoteliers, since their brand, GES SPA, is only dedicated to managing spas within hotels. During all this time they have been growing, as hotels want to outsource this service more and more.

Five years ago the idea of setting up the BEER SPA brand was born. The beer spa is a different concept of spa, as the water is replaced by beer (unfermented). It is an idea that has worked very well and that the BEER SPA group continues to expand (either through direct management or franchising).

They currently manage between their brands GES SPA and BEER SPA a total of 20 establishments. Of those 20 spas, 16 of them are located inside 4- and 5-star hotels.

The Ohtels hotel chain has made a very strong commitment to Wellness in its establishments...How did this agreement with you come about?

The contact with Ohtels came about thanks to word of mouth. Thanks to those who already knew us, especially hotel managers, who had previously worked in other chains and had coincided with us in the places we were managing.

There was a hotel specifically interested in outsourcing, with which we had a meeting and reached an agreement to take over 4 establishments. The reason for choosing us is because they wanted to make a qualitative leap in the wellness area and wanted to bet on a specialized company.

We developed a proposal focused on the health and wellness of the client so that when they arrived at the spa we could offer all kinds of treatments. We believe we have achieved our goal, although we still have some things to improve. For us it is very important that the ownership of the establishment and the directors are happy with us and that is what we are aware of.

Do you consider that the GES Wellness proposal in Ohtels hotels is differentiating?

When we visited the spas of the Ohtels chain we realized that they are spas of significant dimensions, with a very good potential, and we thought that the equipment of the spas, in many cases, was oversized.

The answer we give to this, is that we believe that they are spas that can be better exploited, where many more treatments can be offered. For this we have bet on treatments oriented to aesthetic medicine: HIFU, Laser, Cryotherapy ... so we have for the customer, a much broader service and that is not usually found in traditional spas.

How do you think the world of Wellness in Spain is doing?

It is very complicated. When we started 22 years ago there were very few spas. The hotels that had spas were very few and at that time spas were something very demanded and required by the clients.

Today it is difficult because all hotels of four stars and above, bet on having a wellness area. It is true that the wellness areas, as Ohtels has, are very oversized, today that no longer happens and the cases in which it happens are the fewest.

The problem we have is that the wellness pie at national level is very distributed; that is, the more spas there are, the more it is distributed. Our intention is to differentiate ourselves from the rest, because in addition to working hard on the issue of prices, we want to differentiate ourselves and try to give the customer more than a service, an experience.

During our 22 years, and especially 5 years ago that we incorporated the brand BEER SPA, we seek within all our spas both GES SPA and BEER SPA, to be different from the others. We want the client to have a different experience when they arrive. We are working on it and I believe that little by little we will improve in this field.

What would you highlight about the spas of Ohtels hotels? Is there a unified line of work or each hotel has its own spa with its own personality?

About the Ohtels chain, the truth is that I was very surprised -as I mentioned in the previous question-, by the size of the facilities. There were many services, not repeated but very similar and that are complementary. The truth is that they are very large spas, very beautiful, very well done, although logically nowadays it is not advisable to take baths of such magnitude.

About how we work, we have some protocols that we have been creating over the years, in which, we mark very well the guidelines on how to work: from the reception when a client enters, until he leaves, through all the treatments we have on the menu.

We work in all spas the same, we have given a common line of work for all, offering almost the same services. We take into account that there are some small nuances in some of the spas depending on their facilities, but practically all of them work in exactly the same way for all purposes.

Which are the most demanded or requested treatments by users? Do you offer exclusive treatments?

About the most demanded treatments, in general, is the massage in its different modalities: relaxing, therapeutic, sports... In almost all our spas the star service is the massage.

There is a trend to offer differentiating massages such as the pindas massage or the volcanic stone massage

Currently we are fostering a little more the beauty theme with the incorporation of a new brand that we have introduced, the French brand Thalgo, which makes its products with marine material. We are betting and offering this type of treatment that is giving a magnificent result and also the people who enjoy it, immediately appreciate the result.

The last thing we are currently betting on is aesthetic medicine, we have on staff a beautician FP2. So we are betting, among other treatments, by the laser not only for epilation but for rejuvenation, elasticity in the skin, etc.

We are acquiring all kinds of new machinery: such as HIFU where the result is visible to the naked eye as soon as you get up from the table.

We like to give exclusive treatments that very few establishments offer.
