What is a beer spa?
A beer spa is a wellness center in which beer and its ingredients are used to obtain benefits that can range from relaxation, to toning the skin, and many others.
It is not really about bathing in beer as such (sorry if you just take a disappointment), since doing this what we would get would dehydrate instead of hydrate, but to the water are added the natural components of beer to take advantage of everything that can bring us this popular (and ancient) drink.

You can't drink the water from the barrels you're immersed in, but almost all beer spas are prepared with taps attached to the pool and an open bar (with snack), so you can pour yourself any beer you want while enjoying a nice swim.
Where can I find a beer spa
The beer spa is not one of the oldest, but it has become popular very quickly.
This type of spa comes from northern Europe, although you can already find some establishments in America.
In Árskógssandur, Iceland you can immerse yourself in the Bjórböðin beer spa, which even has an outdoor bathtub for larger groups, and stay at Ytri Vik, dreamy cabins at the foot of a fjord. An important note is that you are advised not to shower until 4 hours after the treatment to take advantage of all its properties.
In Germany (another beer-enthusiast country) you can find the Bierbad Landhotel. Located next to a forest, you can bathe in beer in a 200-year-old cellar.
If you decide to visit a 19th-century European-style spa, you can't miss the Széchenyi Baths, in the Budapest Spas, as they feature a Thermal Beer Spa: water at 36º with a mix of malt, hops and yeast.
You can also visit Prague (one of the most beautiful cities in Europe) and take the opportunity to relax in the Original Beer Spa in Prague. Or decide to Austria and bathe in the Starkenber beer pools, in the cellar of a 700-year-old castle.

The popular beer spas have also reached our country and you can visit some establishments where you can enjoy immersion in Iroko wood barrels, with Jacuzzi, water at approximately 38º, hops, barley, brewer's yeast, colloidal oatmeal and cinnamon powder.
In addition, the bath is combined with a session of sauna in which the idea is not to sweat, but to open the pores so that all the components of the beer penetrate the skin and, thus, take full advantage of all its properties.
You can then relax on a bed of barley and receive a massage.
