General description
The spa hotel is located in the small municipality of Mondariz in Pontevedra. Between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it became one of the most important spas in Spain. Here you can see old photos of how the municipality was at that time.

Description of the Spa
The star building of the spa is the Water Palace, a large spa perfect to enjoy alone, as a couple, in a group or with children. The 3-hour maximum tour includes its active pool (water beds, hydromassage jets, swan necks, counter-currents, vertical jets, hydromassages and a large waterfall). The first floor has two soft saunas (one of them with stone walls and a small waterfall) and the second floor has a couple more jacuzzis, four saunas (two of them "Finnish" - oak and two aromatic ones like thermal baths) plus their respective contrast bathtub for the bravest ones. There is also a pediluvium room and an "onsen" (outdoor pools).
The Celtic Circuit is a bit more exclusive as only groups of 8 people (minimum age 14 years) and reservations are required. It consists of a peeling effect shower, a collective indoor bath with jets, a Celtic sauna (with an original cave), an application of pressure jets and a collective outdoor bath in hot water (onsen type). The duration of this circuit is approximately 1h30.

Type of waters
Although its waters were already used during Roman times, the history of the Mondariz Spa began in 1873, when its waters were declared of public utility at the initiative of the brothers Enrique and Ramón Peinador. This family then acquired the land and during the first decades formed a company oriented to the elite thermalism.
The growing number of guests and the prestige achieved by its waters forced the creation of a new building: the Gran Hotel in 1898. In addition, during the first decades of the 20th century, the architect Antonio Palacio was in charge of the remodeling of the Gándara Fountain and the Troncoso Fountain, as well as the construction of the building "La Baranda" where the current spa is located.
Between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it became one of the most important spas in Spain. It was one of the most awarded spas on the European continent and was visited by such illustrious figures as Roquefeler III, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Emilio Castelar and Isaac Peral.
The Gran Hotel suffered a fire in 1973. It was rebuilt in the 1980s. Today, this beautiful villa is a quiet place where time does not pass, where time does not pass, water becomes art and art is legend.
The waters of the Mondariz spa are hypothermal, of medium mineralization, bicarbonated, sodium, radioactive and carbogaseous.

They are divided into standard rooms standard, superior, junior suite and viewpoint suite. The main bar-restaurant is the Gándara, where breakfast (breakfast buffet), lunch and dinner are served. There is also the Italian Restaurant which offers a wide variety of more popular dishes as well as children's menus.
The lodge also has a piano bar where concerts are held on Friday and Saturday nights.
If you are going to play golf, there is also the Club House Restaurant with a beautiful terrace overlooking the course and the surrounding natural environment.
Just a stone's throw from the spa, there is also the beautiful terrace of Yago's, an off-site restaurant with homemade Italian food (highly recommended).
Our experience
During our visit, dinner was a surprise: a buffet with high quality Galician products and an a la carte main course, all exquisite!
