General description

Description of the Balneario
The Thermal Spa of the Villa Termal das Caldas de Monchique Spa Resort is the only thermal spa in the Algarve and the south of Portugal.
The spa has a wide range of facilities, such as jet showers, Vichy showers, massages, whirlpool baths and mud application. In addition, it offers a thermal relaxation circuit with an indoor hot water pool, sauna and Turkish bath.

The main attraction of the spa is the superalkaline water, rich in bicarbonate, sodium and fluoride, from Monchique, with a pH of 9.5, which is used in a variety of exclusive treatments and rituals.
The natural mineral water of Monchique, known as the "sacred waters", originates from a hill in the tectonic valley that separates the Monchique mountain range. These waters have been known since Roman times in the Iberian Peninsula, as evidenced by archaeological remains and Latin inscriptions describing them as "sacred". Their history and purity make them a treasure of the region.
The properties of Monchique's superalkaline water are recognized and recommended for respiratory tract diseases, such as asthma, bronchitis, allergies, rhinitis, and sinusitis.
They are also used for musculoskeletal disorders, such as muscle tension, tendonitis, arthritis, osteoarthritis, spondylitis, spondylosis, rheumatic disease and spinal deformities.
