General description
The first historical reference to the Thermal Baths of Amarante is recorded in 1726, in the book Aquilégio Medicinal by Francisco da Fonseca Henriques. In 1895 it is attributed the first concession of the thermal license of Amarante, transferred to the local Concello in 1968.
In 2019 the current Termas de Amarante, located in the center of the city and overlooking the Támega River, were inaugurated.

After a period of medical-hydrological study, the Ministry of Health, by way of Dispatch No. 7733/2018, dated August 13, 2018, of the General Directorate of Health, recognized the therapeutic indications of Termas de Amarante for diseases of the respiratory system (allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, adeonoiditis, bronchial and allergic asthma and COPD), rheumatic and musculoskeletal (osteoarthrosis, inflammatory and joint rheumatisms, sprains and sequelae of fractures).
The waters are hypomineralized, bicarbonated, sodium and fluorinated.
