General description
The spa, located in Alange (Badajoz), was originally built in Roman times, in the third century AD. From the original Roman construction have survived to the present day two circular baths with domed roofs declared World Heritage Sites.
In the 1970s the spa was updated and its facilities expanded, with the construction of the Hotel Varinia Serena in 1989 and the Grand Hotel Aqualange in 2006. The spa was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.
The Alange Spa is a unique place, rich in history, declared a World Heritage Site in 1993, in which Roman baths over two thousand years old coexist with galleries of nineteenth-century marble showers and bathtubs and the most modern hydrothermal techniques and treatments. If you are interested in learning more about the history of this historic spa, guided tours are offered every day at 14:00 and 19:30 (3 euros).
In addition, the establishment has leisure programs, gardens, and nature around it to relax. An unbeatable destination to rest the body and calm the spirit!
In the beautiful village of Alange, we invite you to discover places like the Castillo de Alange, the Iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Milagros, the Bodegas Palacio Quemado, the embalse and its incredible natural environment.

Type of waters
The first constructions of the spa are of Roman origin and date back to the 3rd century AD. Of that original construction have come down to our days two circular thermal baths roofed in dome declared World Heritage Site. After the decline of the Empire, other peoples, such as the Arabs, continued the thermal tradition. The village, in fact, is called Alange, which means "water of Allah".
For centuries, the spa falls back into oblivion and until the eighteenth, the rehabilitation of the Roman baths begins at the hand of Don Abdón Berbén y Blanco, the village doctor. The facilities were then expanded with gardens, Italian marble bathtubs, pools over the spring, and shower galleries.
In the 1970s the thermal culture was reborn and the facilities were updated and expanded and two hotels were built in 1989 and 2006. The spa was declared a World Heritage Site in 1993.
The water with therapeutic properties of the Alange spa allows effective and natural medical programs for health care and the relief and prevention of various pathologies.
