General description
The Balneario de Cortegada, a historic building that reopened in 1995, is located next to the Miño river and surrounded by green mountains, valleys, and rivers. The building seems to be suspended over the waters of the Frieiras reservoir, ideal for water sports.
In the spirit of modernism, this spa was built in 1937 next to the waters of the Miño River and surrounded by nature.
The spa also offers a wide range of thermal treatments and services adapted to the personal situation of each client, under the supervision of the establishment's medical team.

Type of waters
Since the 6th century, these waters have been known since the monastery of Celanova gauged the baths of Cortegada and a mountain. However, there are no remains of the baths prior to the 18th century. In 1818 was when the springs of Campo de Abaixo and Baño da Pedra o de Arriba were conditioned and their waters were declared "of public utility" in 1869.
In 1937, to avoid the consequences of the floods of the Miño, a building was built closer to the banks of the Miño, the work of the Vigo architect José Lago Loureiro. Thanks to this change of location and the construction of the Frieiras reservoir in 1970, the spa has remained safe ever since.
Its mineral-medicinal waters are sulphurized, bicarbonated, fluoridated, sodium, and lithium and flow at a temperature of around 44ºC which nourish this spa.
Because of their characteristics, they are indicated for rheumatic pathologies, arthrosis, muscular disorders, dermatological problems, respiratory diseases, genitourinary and gastrointestinal problems. They are also beneficial for problems present today as depressive disorders, obesity, and stress.
