General description
A few kilometers from the center of Guimarães, is the village of Caldas de Taipas, which draws attention to its ancient thermal stay. The use of the waters at this point dates back to Roman times, as attested by an inscription from the time of Trajan (next to the ruins) that speaks of the search for and use of the medicinal mineral waters of the place.
The banhos vellos were replaced by new facilities at the beginning of the 20th century. Currently, this enclave offers a cultural and leisure program. In recent years, the Taipas Termal brand has also been created, which has led to the creation and development of new products, related to new concepts such as the thermal spa or natural cosmetics.
In 2015 was inaugurated the thermal spa of Caldas de Taipas, which also has a health clinic. As stated on its website, the search for excellence is the driving force behind these facilities, which combine classic thermalism with thermal spa and wellness tourism.

Taipas Termal has three outdoor swimming pools, of various sizes, for sports practice: an Olympic-size pool, a medium-sized pool, and a children's pool. They are open from June to September, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and an entrance ticket is required (price list)

Type of waters
The waters that feed this spa emerge at a temperature of 30ºC and, due to their mineralization, are hyposaline, sulfurous, sodium, silicate and fluorinated. Due to their characteristics, they are especially suitable for:
- pathologies of the respiratory system of the upper airways: rhinitis, pharyngitis or sinusitis, chronic allergic ailments.

Although Taipas Termal does not have its own lodging, it makes available to the user a camping space in the vicinity of the facilities. This space has 15,000 square meters and 52 places, with a total capacity of 234 campers.
